For the first time in several years, the ANA has stable management with Larry Shepherd and his team. This puts the incoming Board in a unique position to forego micromanagement and focus on its vision for the future of numismatics. I have the business experience, problem-solving skills and open-mindedness to guide that vision.

Achieving this vision will require action. Financial stability is critical. The ANA’s deficit continues, and income is dampened by the global recession. The ANA must balance its budget while ensuring that financial responsibility does not diminish the quality or accessibility of services for its members. Fund-raising needs to be enhanced; donors need to be properly recognized. My deep belief in the importance of education motivates me to enhance our core mission. My ability to engage with people of all ages and from diverse backgrounds makes me responsive to members’ needs and better able to increase ANA membership.

Originally a farm boy from Kansas, I joined the ANA in 1985 and have been a national volunteer for over a decade. I was named Outstanding Young Numismatist in 1988 and won YN best-in-show in 1991. I have authored 32 numismatic articles, including five for The Numismatist. A regular instructor at the Summer Seminar, I have been attending since 1987 and mentoring and chaperoning YNs since 1998. I thrive in this educational setting, skipping a week of sleep with wonderful, young numismatic scholars, while bringing the excitement of ancient coins to life during my daytime class.

A physician educated at the University of Cambridge and the Mayo Clinic, I run clinical trials at Pfizer and am on the faculty at Yale School of Medicine, where I care for patients at the VA hospital. As a longtime collector of ancient coins and the father of two young numismatists, I am deeply and personally interested in the future of our hobby.

I will bring a fresh outlook to the ANA. I am approachable and accessible and on a first-name basis with everyone. I am full of energy and enthusiasm and ready to work for the future. I ask for your vote.
