Virgina Numismatic Association holds 55th Convention

The Virginia Numismatic Association held its 55th Annual Convention and Coin Show, September 27-29, 2013, at the Fredericksburg Expo and Conference Center, Fredericksburg, Virginia. There were 142 tables with 90 dealers, from 16 states. During three beautiful days, the show was attended by over 1,000 enthusiastic collectors including more than 150 from a home-school group and the Boy Scouts. The Culpeper, Rappahannock Area and Warrenton Coin Clubs hosted the event and provided dedicated volunteers with assistance from the Monticello and Richmond Clubs. Next year's convention will be held in the same location on September 26-28, 2014. This year, we had a special guest touring our show on Friday - the world's first numismatist squirrel who scampered through the hall before being convinced by our intrepid security to exit the hall.

Highlights of the 2013 event:

  • Miley Tucker-Frost, a renowned sculptor, was the banquet speaker this year. She is the designer of the reverse of the American Eagle Gold Bullion Coin.
  • Workshops for the Boy Scout Coin Collecting Merit Badge were held with participation by 40 scouts. Twenty- six completed the certification.
  • On Friday, there were workshops for 72 Home School students ages 6 to 12.
