Two of the foremost experts in U.S. gold coins and territorial gold, David McCarthy and Doug Winter, will offer special insight into the recent Saddle Ridge Hoard discovery as part of their Session 2 class, United States and Territorial Gold Coinage (1795-1933).

McCarthy, senior numismatist at Kagin's, assisted the anonymous couple who discovered the Saddle Ridge Hoard in bringing the coins to market. Winter is considered one of the leading experts on U.S. gold coins and has authored several books on gold coins (many of which are available for checkout from the ANA Library).

"I think it's an incredible opportunity to sit down with Doug, who has written several of the most hugely important books on U.S. gold, and myself, and I know a thing or two about pioneer gold," McCarthy said. "We are two dealers who have been fortunate enough to have hands-on experience with the sorts of gold coins that we're going to be talking about in the class."

The course will also include study of the coinage minted at U.S. Mint branches in Charlotte, N.C.; Carson City, Nev.; Dahlonega, Ga.; and New Orleans. The course will also cover the Harry W. Bass Jr. collection at the Edward C. Rochette Money Museum.
