A BRIEF HISTORY OF THE SILVER AMERICAN EAGLE

Coins-United States | Longstrider

Today I would like to build on the excellent blog written by Mike 271 on 13 Sept. entitled (2018 S Mint at Philadelphia Show ANA Label). I wouldn't normally write a similar blog so soon after another member but I received Mike's O.K., also they are going to be about different aspects of the same coin. Mike wrote mostly on the great label and I totally agree with him. I am not normally a guy that buys the label however I do have some exceptions. This is one of them. Read his blog and you will understand. Don't forget to comment.

2015 United States Marshals Service 225 Anniversary

Coins | Longstrider

Well I was going through some of our coins the other day, something we all need to do from time to time, and I ran into my Marshals Service 225th Anniversary Silver Dollar.  I hadn't put it up yet. It's from 2015. That's why I need to go through them more often. Anyway I purchased this one direct from the mint. I don't usually buy a lot of modern commemorative but I really liked the design on this one. Besides being a very nice design the coin celebrates the 225th anniversary of the U.S. Marshals Service. The first federal law enforcement agency in the United States. I won't go into everything that is engraved on the coins as I believe one can read them from the photos. The obverse was designed by Richard masters and engraved by Charles Vickers. The reverse was designed by Frank Morris and designed by Joseph Menna. It's made with 90% silver in a proof finish. With a diameter of 38.10 mm and a weight of 26.73 grams it's a nice coin to remember the old west. It has a nice heft and feel good in the hand. It was minted in Philadelphia. There were only 500,000 minted across all options available. Thanks for looking and I look forward to your comments.

1987 W U.S. CONSTITUTION BICENTENNIAL

Coins | Longstrider

I don't usually buy gold coins but I really like this one. I originally saw it on an auction a couple of years ago but didn't bid on it. I've kicked myself in the butt ever since. Happily, this coin came up for bids recently. This time I bid on it and got it for a very good price. I guess everyone else was sleeping. This coin has a mintage of 651,659 in Proof grades. It was minted at West Point. Being in Proof 70 Ultra Cameo the designs really pop out. Both the obverse and reverse engravings are spectacular and inspiring. Being only .008 of an ounce less pure gold than the new Standing Liberty Commemorative, I think I got a lot better coin for a lot less money. Just my opinion. I could be wrong! Thanks for looking!

2015 United States Marshals Service 225 Anniversary

Coins | Longstrider

Here are some pictures of an anniversary gift my wife gave me. Kind of fitting as they are for the 225 anniversary of the U.S. Marshals Service. The first one is a 2015 One Dollar Silver Proof. Included is the OGP, Original Government Packaging. The next coin is the Proof Clad Half Dollar in the same Commemorative Program. Also with the OGP. I really like cowboy coins! Goes well with Carson City Morgan Silver Dollars.
