Hunt Update #3

Hey Fellow YNs and ANA members,
The name on this tells you exactly what happened here, I found silver! Okay, very small silver, but this is still the best coin I have found in rolls. If you didn't see the pictures, then you don't know exactly what I found. It is a 1943-P war nickel, one that I spotted immediately because of the big, beautiful P mintmark above the dome on Monticello. If they did that these days, that would be so cool. But the Mint wouldn't do that. Anyway, I was very excited about it for one reason, it is my first silver!

Well, let me explain what happened. I was hunting along through my second roll of nickels(I dump out the whole roll and then search through those), just a usual roll most of the way, then I look up from examining one and staring in my face is a big P mintmark(see pictures, they show what I saw when I looked up). I immediately knew what it was, more because of the mintmark and less the extremely dark color to it, because I didn't notice the color at the time. I was more excited about that then any other roll hunting find, because silver IS silver. There is a minor ding on the edge that hits into the obverse, but otherwise it is a beautiful coin. Probably F-VF.

Other than that, I also bought two quarter rolls which turned out to be OBW, and since I already had one OBW roll, I decided to crack open the other two to find high quality coins(I think my bank has more of them, so I don't have to worry about saving them, I am also on a low budget, so there's that). I found two, which lacked any hits on what I believe is the prime focal point(the area on Washington's chin), and I put those two in mylar. And they were Maya Angelou, so I think my other is too.

Now these may not be the greatest finds to you experienced hunters, I even remember reading a blog where @CoinHunter found a Liberty Head Nickel, a Buffalo Nickel, and a War Nickel all in the same box. So this is not the best find, but it is still my first silver. Anyway, thanks for reading,

Hey, even I get excited when I find some silver. Silver is always a great day for me. I like finding silver more than I like finding W quarters, because they are just cooler to me. Keep your eyes peeled!

Congratulations!! Roll hunting is a blast. When i was a kid in the mid 1970s the bank we used used to let us sit at a desk behind the tellers and search half dollar rolls for silver. This bank was in a small town about the size of Mayberry. We found lots of silver back then. I don't have that kind of luck anymore
