What's my Coin? 1646 Ducat - real or fake? Anyone know? Worth?

Coins - World | T.

Received this coin with  an inheritance of many other coins - can anyone direct me to more info? Can anyone also indicate what factors I'd look for to know if it's fake or real?  Thanks in advance!

Yes Mike271, I heard back and posted it already...but, I'm also likely going to the FUN show this wknd (july 12-14) Here's the determination about this 1646 Gold Ducat.... I sent Dariusz F. Jasek (GoldDucats.com) several macro photos of this coin (both sides) and the weight. He believes this coin to be real, but of course cannot be absolutely certain without seeing the coin in person. That's as good as it gets, for now. Thanks everyone!

Might be, but people were always finding ways to earn money without earning it.

Take it to a major show, if possible, & show it to someone w/experience in the field.

Guess what gang? I wrote the person that wrote the book on Ducats - and that person is reviewing my photos now...I did learn that not only are their modern "fakes", but also "contemporary" fakes from back in 1646!! I'll post when I have some news. Stay tuned!

You know how there are certain signs some coins are fakes? Wrong diameter, size, weight, error in design, etc. I'm looking for signs of counterfeit for this 1646 ducat. I did bring it to a coin dealer once...years ago....elderly lady, seemed knowledgable...she looked and looked, felt the weight, said it might be a fake...she wasn't positive... Cant remember if she offered me anything for it.... I got nervous, thinking that's a possible good scam...telling someone, who is no expert it's fake and offering only the hold value perhaps. I'll search out some local dealers for this one and another tiny odd coin. If any of you out there know a European countries expert, please let me know...thank you all for help.

Wow, that looks like a nice coin! Be sure to do your research before you do anything with your coins. eBay has a large group of coins for you to look at and compare. Remember it's the sold prices that you want to look at most closely. A local dealer should be able to help, but never sell a coin where you haven't done your own research. Thanks for sharing!

I need to see the reverse. The coin I checked is real I can't tell but the wear on the obverse says this as used alot no wear on the one I checked. The lettering is also thicker on this. So I can't tell you one way or another . The revere will help. Still a picture is hard you won't know till dealer looks t it . Sorry I tried. Mike.

Looks pretty cool! If you can, I'd take it a good coin dealer and let him take a look at it. Good Luck!

You can't tell by a picture bring it to a dealer. Some one might. Hope you get lucky. Bring the other coins with you. Buy a few books .
