ILNA Youth Associate Program

| user_33663

The Illinois Numismatic Association (ILNA) started a Youth Associate Program (YAP) in 2019, but with all the shutdowns it has been a challenge to develop! We did find 4 YN's ages 10-17 and matched them with Sponsors, for mentoring and guidance.
For 2022, we're going to relaunch the program with a new opportunity, but I would like your feedback, as we're still in the development stage. Here’s the idea, tell me what you think:

I purchase 2 tables at the Oakbrook, IL monthly show at Holiday Inn for $90, and let YNs use the table to buy/sell coins and currency. Myself and other adult Sponsors would supervise and advise. YN's would need to be a member of ILNA and in the ILNA Youth Associate Program to participate. YN's could use their own social media to invite their numismatic friends to the coin show. Since it's a monthly show, the invitation could be ongoing, and repeated. We'd also be promoting membership and programs offered by ILNA, CSNS, ANA, local clubs, and specialty clubs. For bigger shows, YN's could also function as pages.

If it is successful in Oakbrook, IL, other adult Sponsors could host a table elsewhere in the state of Illinois.

ILNA already has a pull up banner for a YN table and participation patches for Associates, and we can develop more outreach materials and rewards as we go along.

If you like this idea, give me some more suggestions! I am planning to launch as a pilot program on January 16th, 9am to 2pm. Based on the results, I will ask ILNA to incorporate the coin show program into the Youth Associate Program.

Sounds awesome! I’d love, as a YN, to have that program in MY area!

Do you have any walking liberty half Dollars or any half cents that I could possibly look at? I like to collect old silver half dollars, dimes, and quarters.

I'll bring some of those coins to the show on January 16th.

OK! Look for me next month in Oakbrook! I'll have a couple interior tables, not along the walls. Is there anything specific that you collect or want to see at the show?

We have an online coin club that meets on Zoom, 1st Tuesday at 6pm, and 3rd Sunday at 5:30pm, each month. The Online Coin Club is an ANA member club,

It's fairly easy to do! Find a local show, purchase an inexpensive table, invite YN's to use your table and provide information and education to coin show attendees. Of course it helps if you affiliate with a local coin club but you can also reach out to the ANA district rep in your state for help.

I like your ideas. I would love to have a coin club near me. I am a zoom member of the Madison coin club and love it. Great group of people. Anything you do to work with the YN's is great. Thanks.

A lot of YN's buy and sell on Instagram. YN's on Instagram are easy to search and find, and some of them may be in the Madison area. Are there any local coin shows around Madison?

Great idea. Just having YN group is a success already. Our coin club had a YN group, but right now a YN group is on hold for us. Keep it simple and build on the program. I know Legacy Knights has a great program going. I hope they don't mind, but Mr. Norris of Legacy Knights runs his schools YN program and does an awesome job. Mokie of the ANA blogs runs the PAN YN event and runs a great program.

I think YN's should have their own table (but supervised by adult numismatist) at a local coin show, then invite their friends to come to the show.
