Coins on Television "The $100,000 Nickel"
I was reading an article in Coin World the other day, and it was about coins being the subject of television shows. Perhaps the most famous of these is from the series "Hawaii Five-O". The episode is called "The $100,000 Nickel". The plot is the attempt to steal the coin by switching a fake (altered 1903 nickel) for the actual one, and the subsequent events that lead to the recovery of the genuine one later in the show. The 1913 Liberty Nickel was the first coin to sell for over $100,000 in the early 70s. In the show, there are a few other coins shown, as well as a copy of Handbook of United States Coins. Its a fun episode to watch, typical police/detective 70s theme, but check it out if you get a chance.
One of our local coin collectors who has been involved in coins since the 1950s mentioned seeing one of the 1913 coins for sale in the early 1960s, for the price of $5000. He ended up buying an 1894S Barber Dime instead :-).

There is another famous nickel. The one the paper boy dropped after being paid. It dropped and opened . Inside microfilm. Brought down a major spy ring. It's in the F.B.I. museum.
