Coin collecting in Texas.

Coins | user_74367

How I started coin collecting was:  In my school in Texas, the GT program (gifted and talented program) did a project with two choices. Quilting,  or a  collection. Sadly, I was not in the GT program, so I did not get to do It. Luckily, two coin collectors from the Greater Houston coin club came to tell us about coins. After their long speech about the history of U.S coinage, they asked us questions. If we were listening, and got the answer right, they gave us coins. I got an answer right and I got a 1982 proof set. At the end, everybody got a packet saying how to examine their coins and a couple of world coins and a bookmark

Great story! My Grandpa got me started in coin collecting when I was around 12 years old. And I'm still going... haha

That's called spreading the word. Some collectors get permission from the school and make a presentation. Some even sign up. Thanks.

It would be nice if someone came in and did a presentation on Coins. I pwould probably know everything already. The most we ever learned in school about numismatics was when we had to read this little newspaper for kids about history and there was a little box with like a paragraph on numismatics and collecting money. Some of there facts were wrong. For example they said lady liberty and presidents were featured on our first Coins. Presidents didn’t happen until 1909 with Lincoln.

Welcome to the hobby. Have fun learning and collecting. I liked your story. Thanks for sharing.

Greta that someone took the time to educate the kids on coin collecting, my only regret in coin collecting was not starting sooner.
