Why i started in Coins

Coins | BluesCoins

Hello All, Just wanted to share why am in coins and what it has done to save my life.First am not a person that does blogs, so will try to update this when i can, am hoping 2 to 3 times a month, with that said let me get started.
Am a US Air Force Veteran and deal with PTSD from being in Iraq. My life was upside down i had idea what was going to happen next, but i know i had to do something. Only coin collecting i did was to put older coins in a jar though out the years. Well i came across that jar couple years ago and started to look at them. I wanted to know more. With the research I did on those coins, i learned something, my mind was at ease. At the time i did not know how far this hobby will take and how much it has changed my life.
Over the next month as i dug into coins and researching i knew i was hooked, I wanted more, and my collection started to grow. As i was new to this and still not knowing how deep i will go i took it slow. I found some groups on Facebook and started to read and look at pictures, i researched what they said the coin was and verified it. took notes and book marked web site and meet some great people with a love for the hobby. As i came across questions i had a place to go for some answers.
I started with roll hunting going thought penny boxes i got from that bank, keeping the good ones throwing back the rest to get more. I was able to bury my thoughts this way, i now had something to turn to. Over the next two years, i started to put together sets getting the right supplies to protect the coins. the right books pretty much the right stuff to keep collecting. i still got a lot to learn within the hobby and within myself.
I don't know where i would be now , how my mind and thoughts could have taken over my life. i still have problems , will always have problems but got coin collecting to thanks on getting me this far.
I am a better person.

Thank you for sharing your story. Like everyone else here, I say thank you. At my local coin club meeting around Veterans day we thanked all the veterans in the coin club and we had about 9 veterans in attendance that day. Our Veterans and military are truly appreciated.

Welcome, and thank you for your service. I don't have experiences like yours but the relaxation part of collecting is just the same. When I spend time with my coins it takes me to places much like when I am reading a book. Thanks for sharing your story. I look forward to hearing more from you.

Thank you so much for your service. It feels so shallow and not enough to say that but we all mean it from the heart, here. I'm glad you found your way to us at the ANA. I personally am disabled and coins have helped me to get up in the mornings some times. Coins have helped a lot of us. I hope you can write a blog now and then. Doesn't have to be long. Let us know what is going on. Thanks and welcome.

Great blog and welcome. First thank you for your service to this country. It's unfortunate what happened. But as I said in the message were close. Coin collecting can release you of tension. It does for me. Looking up the research on a coin and you learn all the history about it it's remarkable. I just wrote a blog on Doris Miller . I had a coin from 2011 and it has him on the obverse the front of the coin shooting that big anti air craft gun. There naming an aircraft after him what an honor that was for presidents... So I was so relaxed just looking at the coin and the beauty and the history. Any help you need the people.here are great. Welcome back. Mike.
