Quality of newer coins

Coins-United States | user_9894

Okay, I have been looking at some of the newer coins being produce in the U. S. and to tell you the truth, they are disappointing. The designs are terrible, flat and uninspiring. The Lincoln cent reverse is flat, the Jefferson Nickel is flat on the obverse and reverse and the state quarters are the same. They resemble toy tokens at best. The coins have none of the sculpturing of the past. Yes, I said past, are we to be dumbed down like the students coming out of high school? Quality doesn't count for anything? Script writing is old fashioned? No one left behind? These are the coming generations of "leaders" we will have to put up with?  Are the universities turning out the type of people who can carry on the traditions of those who came before? Just look at the cars we drive today, they change the body style to attract the specific demographic that spends the most. The style of the cars being sold today has a lot to do with the computer games these kids are playing. Are our coins going to go the same way? This rant will be continued...

i think the coin community is just looking for some change and diversity in the designs that have been around for decades

I like the recent products of the US Mint. I am very proud that the US Mint continues to produce not only our nation's coinage for trade but also continues to produces issues for the avid numismatist.

I have to agree with Longstrider too...he says everything that I've been thinking! The Mint has gone to _ _ _ _. Just my opinion...haha

It is absolutely time for a change in our change. The same old bland designs are getting tiresome. We need a complete re-design, and consideration of whether to continue the cent & half dollar. Food for thought! Room for plenty of opinions!

I couldn't agree more when it comes to business strike coins. For those of you that like to go through rolls looking for gems to send in for grading, most are generally no better than MS-67 and many grade lower. An MS-68 grade is scarce and MS-69 is rare. That said, initial reports have that the quality of the new palladium bullion coins is quite good. Most grade MS-70 and grades lower than 69 are rare.

Worse mint that there is. Understand nobody is running the show. Only the deputy director. They need a new permanent director soon. Moys time has passed. Everything is out of control. Thank. Mike.

I LOVE a good rant. This is a good one. I couldn't agree more with all your arguments. The mint is putting out terrible coins. Mass producing the fastest and easiest way. That means low profile and no artistic details. Just my opinion. I could be wrong. Thanks and keep them coning.
