Are there any coin roll hunters on this site? If you are, comment what you like to hunt and share your finds

My wife and I are coin roll hunters. It's a fun way to pass the time, especially if you have a lot of time. We started out looking for pre 1965 silver coins from bank rolls. That doesn't work for us. I think a lot of people have had that idea. We tried, recently, to buy half dollars from the bank. They don't have rolls. Our favorite coin dealer offers bags of 1000 wheat cents. That's been fairly profitable. He buys back the searched bags at half price. Recently we have been buying boxes of cents for $25, from my bank. We started out just looking for wheat pennies but have progressed to looking for key and semi key-dates of Lincolns. Haveing a lot of fun. The best part is when you are done looking, the bank buys everything back! Nothing like buying money. There are still some finds in pocket change out there. My wife found a 1909 VDB Lincoln Cent in her change! Found thes DDO 1970 S Lincolns in a box from my bank. I hope they show up here. Don't give up!

My dad found a silver quarter, and I have found several wheaties, as well as an interestingly large number of foreign coins.

I've searched all kinds of rolls of different denominations - hand rolled, armored-car service rolls, original bank wrapped (OBW) rolls, and I've usually enjoyed doing this (no one enjoys getting skunked, but it's an integral part of the roll searching game; don't play if you are easily dejected!) Of course, most of us look for silver and/or key dates, but I always like looking through OBW rolls for die varieties - and it can pay off handsomely, if you know what to look for and where.

One of my best finds in rolls I can think of is when I found FIVE specimens of the 1960-D/D, Small Date over Large Date in an original roll of 1960-D cents (Look through rolls labelled as the small date, NOT the large dates to find these! This is one of the best cherrypicking hints I can give anyone with regards to this variety; experience is such a great teacher.) I had to get them slabbed in order to liquidate them, and they all graded either MS-64 or 65 Red; sold them all for over $150 each - that roll only cost me $1 at a local club show several years ago!!

Searching through rolls is one of the best ways to get better collectible coins. It does pay to do this, even if you've been skunked a few times and not found anything in a while. You never know when the lightning is going to strike, so keep at it! I've gone through dozens of boxes of half dollars over the last decade or so and sometimes I've found some 90%'ers, some 40%'ers, but there have been stretches as long as 3+ years of searching and not finding ANY silver halves. But then, that next box might have a few, so yes, it's always a good habit to get into, just as it's a great idea to always check your pocket change. Happy hunting, y'all!

I personally hunt for pre 1982 pennies and hoard them. I have 18 rolls of them :)
