Ever not been able to find a highly minted coin?

I have been working on finishing a 50 State Quarters Collection for one of the younger members of my family.  He was unable to find three coins.  I told him sure, no problem, oh boy, little did I know.  You would think that a coin that was made for circulation and had 448,800,000 made (D - 231,400,000, P - 217,400,000) would be easy peasy.  Nope, the coin that I have been looking unsuccessfully for since June is the 2003 Maine quarter.  I have had others looking for me as well as purchasing rolls of quarters every time I'm at the bank.  To date, No Joy!I will eventually find this quarter, then I will have the map with coins framed with his name and the year it was put together, 2021 I'm guessing.  This set will never be worth the money I will spend to have it professionally matted and framed, I don't care.  This little guy never asks for anything, but he did ask for his Pop to help finish this collection and I will ensure he has a presentation to be proud of.  Oh, I could buy this darn thing on the internet, I ain't gonna do it, I want him to be able to say they all came out of pocket change.
In the process of deciding to vent to all of you, I became curious, is there a highly minted coin that any of you have found infuriatingly hard to find.  If so please share, it will ease the frustration this ole guy is having.  Later!

Hey, maybe I can help. Private message me and we can get more specific. I have tons of Maine quarters. If they have to be perfect, I'll check with my dealer. Otherwise I can probably vgive you w couple circulated that look nice p and d

I feel your pain. When I just started collecting, I only got coins from circulation, and used a whitman folder. It took me nearly a YEAR to find 1977 D. I found literally like 30 1977 P, but no D. Their mintage number is nearly the same, but I still struggled.

when I first started collecting pennies, I just couldn't find the 2012-D! Boy is it annoying.

And I still haven't found any 2009 nickels, but then again those are low mintage...

Or you can buy the whole.sets . Different dealers have them. Let your figures do the walking. Call. But be carefull. Make sure there all made of the same metal. I don't remember if they made silver or just clad. I know they made proofs. My son has the map they sent out

I decided not to buy one, sooner or later I will find one in pocket change.  Just became curious if other folks had experienced something similar.

I've been working on the State Quarters and National Park Quarters on the side for my son and I'm finding it harder to find the older ones in change

To have a set professionally framed would be a great gift.  Even if they are circulated from change that would make a great gift to be saved forever. Send us a picture when its complete. I want to give the grandkids coins, sets etc, but something more personal is always nice.

Will do.  I hope it is something he can look at 30 years from now and enjoy, not for value, but memories.
