I have always heard conflicting opinions on Nic-A-Date... Should I use it on my datless buffys?2 years ago
Is Nic-a-date worth it?
I think it is personal opinion. A buffalo wont be crazy valuable unless you know the date, so I would say try it out and see if you like it or would rather keep them dateless.2 years ago
Dateless, sounds like me 40 years ago. lol, nah, if you consider the coin worthless or barely worth your trouble, what do you have to lose? As always in the group, consider your options and if you decide to do so, don't look back and second guess yourself. And don't let others tell you to do or not to do something. What you are doing, asking for opinions from others so you can make a more informed decision is smart. Keep up the good work. Later!2 years ago
I am with Stumpy on this issue. Why Not? The Nickel is worth no premium without a date and who knows, maybe you will uncover a key date/mintmark combination as a great hole filler.

I have a container for the "coins that lost their dates". I know I'm weird, but I kind of feel bad for them! Ha ha!2 years ago

It was a big deal. Not any more. Even if you found one the grading service would not give a grade and put altered. Making it worth a nickel2 years ago

Well even it's worth a nickel, maybe knowing the date would give some pleasure. I did notice on Amazon, it says that the product will etch the coin. Even if it damages the coin, at that point, is a collector of lesser means going to be able to fill a hole in their collection? That's more fun than not filling that spot for many of us.
Do realize it isn't making the coin worth more, it's just making it more collectable, and that's ok with me.
I've thought about buying a bunch of dareless buffalo nickels and doing the nic a date. Sounds like a great fun time. Might give it a try before all the dateless buffalos are bought up !2 years ago
I would only nic-a-date them if they have a mintmark, because most of the rare ones have mintmark1 year ago
