NGC vs. PCGS

As a collector of coins for over forty years, the vast majority of my collection is in raw form, which is my main focus still. Perhaps due largely in part to starting my journey through numismatics before third party was the rage, the only way to buy a coin for most it would seem. As to the topic, I have bought and will buy graded coins. Yet I rarely chose between the two for various reasons. The greatest of those would be all these fancy labels and holders used as marketing tools only, nothing more. The coin inside is still the same grade despite the holder. If the prices did not vary drastically from one holder to another, for the same identical grade, my mind might change. I also apply this to those CAC stickers, more so than the third party grader of the holder.  While I understand the concept, who's to say what looks better through my eyes? They remind me of the local weather man telling me the "feels" like temperature. In short, both NGC and PCGS have gotten father and farter away from what grading was after the mid-1980's. But, some of us collect slabs I would suppose.

I was taught by my mentor buy the coin not the label. He knew what he was talking about. I kike CAC they will verify that the grading system is correct. And for that you get great prices. Still cant figure them out. They tell you what coins they will look at they look on goes the sticker and your rich.
