This is a sentence straight from Grading Coins by Photographs. Many if not most higher grade Mint State coins have been dipped or recolored, unless they are a warm orange-red color with traces of natural brown.

Most cleaned copper coins turn orange. Bring it to a dealer you trust. Because some have an orange color to them so check it out and be sure. Mike

Sometimes a cleaned cent will show an unattractive color. If it isn't that obvious, I would show it to a trusted, experienced dealer, esp one who has handled many Indian cents.
