OBITUARY FOR TERRY ARMSTRONG
Terry T. Armstrong, an active volunteer with the American
Numismatic Association (ANA), died of cancer on November 7,
1999, in a Dayton, Ohio, hospital.
Armstrong, 62, was very involved in the ANA and the
hobby for many years, joining the Association in 1979 and serving
as a convention volunteer_primarily working with exhibits_a Club
Representative and District Delegate and as a Regional Coordinator
for Ohio and western Pennsylvania. He demonstrated a strong
dedication to numismatics and was able to speak to a novice with
the same enthusiasm as he did on technical aspects with experts in
the hobby.
In addition to the ANA, Armstrong was a member of the
Central States Numismatic Association, Columbus Numismatic
Society/ Central Ohio Numismatic Society and Dayton-Kettering
Coin Club, in which he served as president and secretary. A
collector for more than 40 years, Armstrong's primary interest was
United States and Canadian coins, specializing in Morgan and
Peace dollar die varieties.
Named by President Kenneth Bressett to the National
Money Show committee in 1996, Armstrong was awarded the
ANA Presidential Award in 1997, and was proclaimed a
Numismatic Ambassador by Numismatic News in 1998.
Armstrong was born on September 12, 1937, in Enid,
Oklahoma, and served in the Army from 1954-57. He worked in
Dayton for National Cash Register (NCR) and then the United
States Defense Electronics Center. Just before his death,
Armstrong retired from the U.S. Government Defense Supply
Center in nearby Columbus, Ohio.
Funeral services for Terry Armstrong are set for 2 p.m. on
Wednesday, November 17, at the Memorial Park Cemetery Garden
Chapel in Enid. Henniger-Allen Funeral Home is handling the
arrangements.
