ANA LAUNCHES SEARCH FOR LIBRARIAN; FORMER
LIBRARIAN TO SERVE IN INTERIM
The American Numismatic Association (ANA) is seeking
a librarian to oversee its tremendous circulation, research and
preservation services.
Nawana Britenriker, who had served as librarian for the last
three years, left the ANA's employ on Wednesday, January 24,
2001.
Nancy W. Green, who joined the ANA Library staff in 1976
and served as librarian from 1979 to 1991, has agreed to serve on
an interim basis. A graduate of the University of Minnesota, Green
holds a master's degree in library science from the University of
Denver and also has worked at libraries at the University of
Minnesota, University of Maryland and Colorado College in
Colorado Springs, Colorado, where the ANA is headquartered.
ANA Executive Director Edward C. Rochette says, "We are
extremely fortunate that Nancy is available to help us maintain our
important library services during the search for a person to oversee
this great asset of the Association."
The ANA Library houses the world's largest circulating
collection of numismatic books and periodicals. More than 40,000
volumes on coins, paper money, tokens, medals, military orders
and decorations, and stocks and bonds can be borrowed by ANA
members for only the cost of postage and insurance. In addition,
more than 100 videotapes and illustrated slide programs - complete
with narrative material - are available for loan to member clubs and
individuals.
The current remodeling of ANA headquarters includes
expansion of the library into an area on the lower level of the
Association's building. In addition, the Library will offer
researchers detailed, digital access to the Harry W. Bass Jr. core
collection, which will be housed in the ANA's Money Museum,
also being renovated.
The ANA librarian is responsible for the development and
management of the library's collection, including acquisition,
maintenance and preservation of books, periodicals, auction
catalogs and audiovisual materials. The librarian also provides
research and information services to ANA members, staff and the
general public, as well as solicits donations and grants for the
library.
According to ANA bylaws, the librarian is appointed by the
Association's Board of Governors based upon the recommendation
of the executive director.
Interested applicants should send a cover letter and resume
to Roberta Burghardt, ANA Human Resources Administrator, 818
N. Cascade Ave., Colorado Springs, CO 80903-3279.
