ANA CURATOR ANNOUNCES RESIGNATION
Robert W. Hoge, curator of the American Numismatic Association
(ANA) Money Museum in Colorado Springs, Colorado, has announced his
intention to resign in August.
After 20 years with the ANA, Hoge intends to accept a senior
curatorial position with the American Numismatic Society in New
York.
"The ANA is losing a major asset," says ANA Executive Director
Edward C. Rochette. "However, with Bob going to our sister
organization, the field of numismatics will remain strong."
In his letter of resignation, Hoge says, "Change is one of the
few constants in the world. The ANA Museum has been the focus of my
life for 20 years and will always remain close to my heart."
Hoge says he will stay with the ANA for two months to assist
in the opening of the Museum, currently undergoing a $3 million
renovation along with the ANA's library. Set for completion this
summer, the remodeled facilities will stimulate visitors' interest
in the diverse domain of numismatics, opening windows on the worlds
of history, art, geography, religion, economics, sociology and
architecture.
Rochette says the search for Hoge's replacement will begin
immediately.
Hoge, 54, joined the ANA staff in 1981, after five years as
director of the Sanford Museum and Planetarium in Cherokee, Iowa.
A Phi Beta Kappa graduate of the University of Colorado with a
degree in anthropology and history, Hoge began coin collecting as
a 10-year-old when he found a badly worn brass counter piece from
Nuremberg that imitated a United States $20 gold piece.
