ANA SEEKS AWARD NOMINATIONS
The American Numismatic Association (ANA) is seeking
nominations for awards to be presented at the ANA World's Fair
of Money® in New York City next summer.
In his call for nominations, ANA Executive Director
Edward C. Rochette says, "The Association seeks to promote
numismatics through the education of its members, the general
public and the numismatic community. Award nominations are
vital to help the ANA identify and acknowledge those individuals
and organizations who share our common goal and are
exceptionally dedicated in helping us reach it."
The deadline for ANA award nominations is January 18,
2002. All nominations must include date of submission; name;
background of nominee, such as awards received, what they have
done to support the hobby, etc.; and birth date (if known). Award
nominees must be ANA members, unless otherwise indicated.
Nominations are being sought for the following ANA
awards:
Farran Zerbe Memorial Award for Distinguished Service
(Named for one of the Association's early members and greatest
supporters, it is the highest honor conferred by the ANA) - Honors
an individual for numerous years of outstanding, dedicated service
to numismatics. The nominee should be a previous Medal of Merit
and Glenn Smedley Memorial Award recipient.
Medal of Merit - Recognizes individuals who have
dedicated numerous years of service to the ANA, and promoted the
hobby and numismatics. Nominees should be a previous Glenn
Smedley recipient.
Glenn Smedley Memorial Award (created in memory of
Glenn B. Smedley - a collector's collector) - Recognizes
individuals who have devoted his/her efforts to the betterment of
the ANA. Nominees should be involved in volunteer service to the
ANA either on a local, regional or national level. Nominees also
should exhibit a positive attitude, strong communication skills,
cooperation and dependability.
Lifetime Achievement Award - Presented to an individual,
family, firm, or judicial entity that has made outstanding
contributions to organized numismatics. Nominees also should have
a strong record of professional involvement in the industry. (Not
limited to ANA members.)
Outstanding Government Service Award - Recognizes
individuals in public service - working for a government,
governmental agency or international organization, or who have
retired or been separated from such organization in the 12 months
prior to the bestowal of the award who have helped advance the
interests of collectors of coins, tokens, medals and paper money.
(Not limited to ANA members.)
Exemplary Service Award - Recognizes individuals or
entities (club, corporation, firm or association), that have performed
services on behalf of the ANA that are "above and beyond" the
call. Nominees should have attained goals of lasting significance to
the ANA and the numismatic industry. (Not limited to ANA
members.)
Numismatic Art Award for Excellence in Medallic Sculpture
- Recognizes an individual who exemplifies the fine art of
designing, sculpting and engraving. Nominees should be artists
whose cumulative lifetime achievements in the field of medallic
sculpture have been of the highest order with respect to
contributions to numismatic art. (Nominations MUST include
biographical information on the artist and a list his/her work -
include photographs or photo copies of artwork, if available.) (Not
limited to ANA members.)
Terry Armstrong Memorial Award for Outstanding Regional
Coordinator - Recognizes the Representative Program's most
outstanding Regional Coordinator for the year.
Nominees for this award will be judged on the following:
- Participation in the local community, including exhibiting,
numismatic talks, etc.
- Active support of ANA membership at local shows and at the
ANA conventions.
- Number of new ANA members sponsored.
- Number of club meetings attended.
- Offices held in ANA member clubs.
- Articles written for the ANA newsletter, "MintMark."
- Assisting clubs in increasing membership.
- Recruiting and retention of clubs.
- Comprehensive annual report submitted to the Membership
Director, and suggestions or recommendations to improve the
Representative Program.
- Involvement and interaction with District Delegates and Club
Representatives.
- Active with District Delegates and the Club Representatives.
- Assistance to clubs in planning club meetings, scheduling
speakers, coordinating local coin club shows, utilizing ANA club
benefits, etc.
Helen Carmody-Lebo Memorial Award for Outstanding
District Delegate - Recognizes the Representative Program's
District Delegate who most fully promotes coin collecting, coin
clubs and the ANA. The nominee should be outstanding in, but not
limited to, two or more of the following categories: contributions
to the hobby; promotion of the ANA; participation in National
Coin Week; recruitment of new members; involvement in club
activities, and local, regional and national committees.
Outstanding Club Representative Award - Recognizes those
individuals who serve their coin club with exemplary enthusiasm
and dedication. Nominees should meet the same criteria as the
award above.
Outstanding Adult Advisor Award - Recognizes adult
leaders and mentors who have devoted their efforts to recruiting
beginning young numismatists, and aiding the development of
intermediate to advanced YNs.
Nominees for this award will be judged on the following:
- Advisor to a junior club.
- Numismatic tours for Juniors - tour arranged by
and/or conducted by an adult leader to coin shows, coin museums,
educational forums, historic sites, and/or other educational tours.
- Convention programs for Juniors - programs other than tours
conducted and/or arranged by an adult leader for juniors, to include
educational programs, special exhibits, meals and refreshments, etc.
- Numismatic talks to Juniors - to include presentations at coin
clubs, schools and other junior groups, such as 4-H, Scouts,
YMCA, etc.
- Scout Merit Badge - as a Merit Badge Counselor, the number
of Scouts aided and the number of merit badges earned by those
aided.
- Consideration also will be given to non-numismatic junior
activities by the adult leader. These would include: Little League,
Boy and/or Girl Scouts, Sunday School and so forth.
- Recruitment of juniors as ANA members.
- Recruitment of juniors to local club(s).
- Articles written for the Junior Collector. Please list name of
publication or include a copy of the article. Please list any
assistance given to aiding junior writers.
- Other - sponsoring awards, lobbying adult groups to aid juniors,
etc.
Outstanding Young Numismatist of the Year Award -
Honors young numismatists for outstanding contributions to the
numismatic hobby.
Criteria: Nominees for this award will be judged on the
following:
- This award is limited to members of the ANA under the age 22
and younger.
- Nominees for this award are required to submit, in writing, no
later than Monday, April 2, 2002, an official application describing
his/her numismatic activities and accomplishments during the past
year. Any junior member nominated for this award will promptly
receive an official application directly from the ANA.
- Nominees should be involved in, but not limited to, the
following: Exhibits; Presentations; Articles; Research; Volunteer
Service; and Personal Achievements
- The nominee should exhibit a positive attitude, strong
communication skills, cooperation and dependability, as well as an
avid interest in expanding his/her knowledge of numismatics.
