ANA Seeks to Fill New Staff Positions:
Numismatic Researcher and Educator
The American Numismatic Association (ANA) has created two new staff
positions in the museum and education departments in order to expand its
services.
"Both new positions are greatly needed as we move forward with our
ever-expanding services provided by the Association," says ANA Executive
Director Christopher Cipoletti. "We also have two current positions
open--one in the library, the other in the museum--and are seeking
applications for them as well."
A new position, Numismatic Researcher, must be a
well-rounded numismatist able to work on numismatic questions with ANA
members and the general public, as well as develop museum programs and
exhibits.
Primary responsibilities include answering numismatic-related
questions; assisting the museum director with exhibit research, label
text preparation and material installation; developing virtual exhibits
for the ANA's website (www.money.org); and planning and implementing
in-house museum educational programs.
The job requires a broad background knowledge of numismatics,
including coins, tokens, medals and paper money, from ancients to modern
currencies; and a proven track record of numismatic research through
publications, lectures and other demonstrable mastery of the discipline.
Another new position, Numismatic Educator, must be a skilled,
general-knowledge, self-motivated numismatist, with excellent teaching,
public speaking and writing skills. The position offers variety and
opportunity for personal satisfaction for an organized numismatist who
can enthusiastically represent the association and the numismatic hobby.
Duties include preparing and teaching educational outreach programs
for ANA members, Boy and Girl Scouts and the general public at ANA
headquarters and conventions, local schools, clubs and civic group
meetings, as well as other venues in the United States.
Qualifications for the ANA's numismatic educator position include a
strong general numismatic background with grading and/or counterfeit
detection skills a plus; excellent writing and teaching skills.
The ANA also is looking to fill the recently vacated positions of
Registrar/Collection Manager and Research
Librarian/Archivist.
The Registrar catalogs, tracks and manages the ANA Money
Museum's holdings, as well as identifies acquisitions and deaccession of
museum items. The position requires a working knowledge and experience in a
museum.
The Research Librarian provides reference and research
services to members, the public and staff, as well as assists in
maintaining the library. Numismatic and library experience are desirable.
Job descriptions for each of these positions are posted on the ANA's
website (www.money.org) or are available
by calling 800-367-9723.
Applications for all available positions on the ANA staff should be
sent to American Numismatic Association Executive Director Christopher
Cipoletti, 818 N. Cascade Ave., Colorado Springs, CO 80903-3279; or via
e-mail to cipoletti@money.org.
