An open letter from the ANA

To: The Winning Bidder of the 1933 Double Eagle

Dear Successful Bidder:

Please excuse the anonymous salutation. As we write this letter, we do not know your name, because the Sotheby’s/Stack’s auction on behalf of the United States Mint has yet to be conducted. However, we know the importance of the celebrated coin you will have happily purchased in New York City on the evening of July 30. It is a legendary gold piece that many collectors have dreamed of owning for decades.

On behalf of the American Numismatic Association and the coin collecting world, we would be honored if you would share that dream for a few days.

This is a cordial invitation for you to proudly display the 1933 Double Eagle during the American Numismatic Association World’s Fair of Money, July 31 through August 4, 2002, at the Marriott Marquis Hotel. Of course, we will prepare a prominent and secure place of honor so that the thousands of appreciative visitors to the show from across the country and around the world can personally view this extraordinary coin at the world’s premier numismatic event.

An ANA representative will attend the auction and be ready to promptly make appropriate arrangements with you for an exciting public exhibit of this remarkable coin.Thank you in advance for considering this invitation, and again congratulations on your record-breaking purchase of the world’s most famous gold coin!

Sincerely,

John W. Wilson
President
