ANA candidate forums planned for Long Beach, Charlotte and St. Louis
Members of the American Numismatic Association (ANA) can meet and learn more about candidates for the ANA’s Board of Governors at three forums scheduled for Long Beach, California, Charlotte, North Carolina, and St. Louis, Missouri.
“The ANA has made two important changes to its candidate forums,” says Executive Director Christopher Cipoletti. “First, we increased the number of forums from a single event at the ANA’s spring show to six dates in three different locations across the country. Second, we intend the forums to be less structured than those in the past, allowing members to have informal conversations with candidates at each of these venues.
“As in the past, the ANA will host forums at its National Money ShowSM in Charlotte, March 21-23,” Cipoletti adds. “In addition, we are grateful for the time and space being provided by Ron Gillio at the Long Beach Coin, Stamp & Collectibles Expo, February 27-March 2, and Kevin Foley at the Central States Numismatic Society’s 64th Anniversary Convention in St. Louis, May 1-4.”
Candidates attending the forums will be able to meet with ANA members during two sessions at each convention. Candidates who are unable to attend one or any of the shows can designate representatives to make remarks on their behalf.
The forums will be held in Long Beach on Friday, February 28 (10 a.m. to noon) and Saturday, March 1 (4-6 p.m.); in Charlotte on Friday, March 21 (5-7 p.m.) and Saturday, March 22 (10 a.m.-noon); and in St. Louis on Friday, May 2, (1-3 p.m.) and on Saturday, May 3 (11 a.m.-1 p.m.). The terms of all nine ANA officers expire this summer. Those elected will be installed on August 2, 2003, at the ANA’s 112th Anniversary Convention in Baltimore, Maryland, and will compose the Board of Governors for the ensuing two years.
Nominees must be members who are entitled to hold office under the ANA Bylaws. Associate and honorary members, member clubs, and members under the age of 18 may not hold office. To be eligible for the office of president or vice president, a member must have served at least one term as governor. To be eligible to serve as a governor, a member must have been in good standing for at least three, consecutive years immediately preceding the election. No member can serve on the Board more than 10 years.
To be a candidate for office, a member must receive at least five (5) nominations from member clubs in good standing and at least five (5) nominations from individual members in good standing. No member may nominate himself or herself for office. No member may nominate a number of candidates for any office in excess of the number that can be elected to an office. This means each individual member or club is allowed to nominate one person for president, one for vice president and seven for governor.
