ANA National Money Show bourse is nearly sold out
The bourse floor at the American Numismatic Association (ANA) National Money Show in Charlotte, North Carolina, March 21-23, 2003, is nearly sold out.
“We have reserved almost all the 220 bourse tables available at the Charlotte Convention Center, and we have no room to add any more,” says Brenda Bishop, ANA convention manager. “Interest among dealers is high, so we only have a few spaces left.
“In addition, we have great local support,” Bishop adds. “Both local host clubs – the Charlotte Coin Club and North Carolina Numismatic Association – are working hard to promote this convention. Combine this with our advertising and promotional campaign, I expect Charlotte to be another great, sell-out show.”
The spring convention marks the first time the ANA has hosted a show in Charlotte in 16 years.
“In recent years, we have seen a tremendous increase in activity at our National Money Shows and expect to see it continue in Charlotte next spring,” Bishop says. “Not only will we have a great selection of numismatic dealers, but we also will present the finest numismatic educational programs, our Treasure Trivia Game for young numismatists and a wonderful array of exhibits.”
One of the tours planned during the show will explore the Reed Gold Mine, site of the America’s first gold rush. Although gold was found on John Reed’s farm near Charlotte in 1799, mining operations did not begin until the early 19th century. The gold rush led to the founding of the Charlotte Mint in 1835. To encourage the public to look closely at their pocket change, the ANA will purposely place several 1914-D Lincoln cents, worth $100 each, into circulation in the Charlotte area. Anyone finding one of the coins can either keep it to start a collection or add to one, or bring it to the show, where they will receive a finder’s reward equal to the collector value.The ANA has arranged discount room rates at The Westin Charlotte (704/375-2623) across the street from the convention center, and the nearby Hampton Inn Charlotte Uptown (704/373-0917).
