ANA TRAVELING EXHIBIT ‘MONEY IN EARLY AMERICA’ TO BE FEATURED AT TEXAS NUMISMATIC ASSOCIATION CONVENTION

“Money in Early America,” a traveling exhibit from the American Numismatic Association’s Edward C. Rochette Money Museum, will be featured at the 55th annual Texas Numismatic Association Convention and Coin Show at the Will Rogers Memorial Center in Fort Worth, Texas, May 31-June 2.

 

“Money in Early America” shows the fascinating history of the money that helped build a nation.  The exhibit includes 28 numismatic items in three full-color interpretive panels. This exhibit presents fascinating educational facts and items about the first money used in early American colonies. Items displayed include a 1776 U.S. Continental half dollar note, United Kingdom Charles I 1625-6 shilling, 1773 Virginia halfpenny (copy), 1652 Pine Tree  shilling (copy), and much more.

 

Two speakers are scheduled to give talks related to the exhibit on Saturday, June 1.  Erik Goldstein, curator of Mechanical Arts and Numismatics at the Colonial Williamsburg Foundation, will further enlighten guest about money in early America with his talk, “Pounds, Pence and Pistareens, The Real Story of Money in Colonial America.” Lorraine Weiss, co-founder and co-operator of Weiss Collectable Sales, will present, “A Numismatic Melting Pot as Reflected by the Foreign Coins that Circulated in Colonial Americana.”   

 

The TNA Convention and Coin Show will take place at the Will Rogers Memorial Center in the Amon G. Carter Jr. Exhibits Hall. General admission is $3. TNA members and children under 18 are free. Admission is free for everyone on Sunday, June 2.

 

Other events slated for the show include a talk by Sergio Sanchez, founder and CEO of Numismatist Financial Group Inc., who will present “Large Size Silver Certificates” on Saturday, June 1. Additionally, the show will feature collector exhibits, a silent book auction, TNA medal sales, youth auctions and special programs for young collectors.
