Central States Numismatic Society Donates $50,000 to the ANA
Funds to be used to help offset costs of Summer Seminar

The Central States Numismatic Society today presented a check for $50,000 to the American Numismatic Association to help fund Summer Seminar, the ANA’s annual summer educational program.

The gift, presented by CSNS President Patti Finner during opening ceremonies of the World’s Fair of Money in Baltimore, will be used to offset costs of operating Summer Seminar.

“The Central States Numismatic Society believes in education,” said Finner, who also is vice president of the ANA. “We believe Summer Seminar is the best opportunity for numismatic education on the planet. This is our 40th anniversary present to the ANA Summer Seminar – we want to make sure it’s around for at least another 40 years.”

Summer Seminar, which was founded in 1969, celebrated its 40th year this past summer. It annually attracts about 400 students of all ages from around the U.S. to two, one-week sessions in Colorado Springs where students take intensive classes on a variety of numismatic subjects. It is the ANA’s flagship educational program.

“I thank the Central States Numismatic Society for its generosity and for its commitment to education,” said ANA Executive Director Larry Shepherd. “This gift will help us keep this spectacular program affordable for more of our members and allow us to continue to enhance our educational offerings.”

In addition to the $50,000 donation, Finner said CSNS would match any gift up to $12,500 from any club or nonprofit organization, as well as up to $12,500 from any commercial or dealer entity.

Finner said the Central States coin show in Chicago earlier this year was very successful, and that CSNS Board of Directors unanimously supported donating profits from that show as an investment in the future of the hobby.

The 2009 ANA Summer Seminar will be held June 27-July 3 and July 4-10 in Colorado Springs.
