Chirs Connell commended as outstanding adult advisor

Each year the American Numismatic Association (ANA) recognizes with its Outstanding Adult Advisor Award a member whose work in encouraging and assisting young numismatists (YNs) is particularly noteworthy. During the Abe Kosoff Young Numismatists Breakfast at the ANA’s 109th Anniversary Convention in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, Chris Connell of Great Neck, New York, was honored this year’s recipient. (The announcement also was made during the ANA Summer Seminar in July.)

Connell is recognized for his many years as a Young Numismatist chaperon at the ANA Summer Seminar. In addition, he teaches a course at the seminar on Byzantine numismatics, a subject that forms the brains of his exhibits and lectures at ANA conventions, Princeton University and local coin clubs.

Past president of the New Jersey Numismatic Society (NJNS), Ocean County Coin Club and Watchung Hills Coin Club, Connell also has served on the Garden State Numismatic Association (GSNA) board. He is a recipient of the ANA Glenn Smedley Memorial Award and NJNS Charles Nettleship Award.

Connell has been the editor of the award-winning Ocean County Coin Club Sand Dollar, GSNA’s New Jersey Numismatic Journal and Classical Numismatic Society “Newsletter.”
