During my shopping day downtown last week, I mentioned the beautiful selection of GSA dollars at the coin shop. Such a set would stick in the mind of any collector. But there was another coin that caught my eye. It's a coin that is not that popular and does not get its due.

While browsing in the coin shop yesterday I spotted a classic commemorative, one of the more desirable coins. The Missouri half dollar is one of the tougher coins in the set. This coin was a nice MS-62 and would have fit into a great set.
The coin market has its ups and downs, that no one could predict. Who ever suspected that common coins with mintages in the billions would sell for thousands of dollars because of super-high grades?
While shopping downtown yesterday, I stopped at my favorite coin shop. Plenty to look at, admire, and drool over.
Whatever happened to classic commemorative coins?
Isaac Scott Hathaway designed two US commemorative coins: the Booker T. Washington half dollar, minted from 1946-1951; and the Washington/Carver half dollar, minted from 1951-1954. He was an outstanding artist, sculptor, and educator.
On the day before Inauguration Day, it might be a good time to consider collecting Presidents on coins. There are many!
This year, a $100 gold coin will be minted, featuring an African-American Liberty. Liberty has been depicted over the years as a matron, a schoolgirl, seated, standing and walking. But this 2017 depiction of Liberty is a first.
I've been an amateur astronomer for years, even took classes at the Adler Planetarium. So I am anxious to see the Apollo 11 commemorative coins.
