Hell's Half Acre Hoard of Morgan Dollars

Coins-United States | FortWorthCollector

Hello everyone,
I spent Saturday afternoon & evening using my new camera and copy stand to take pictures of my Morgan Dollar Collection so that I could share them with the community. They are in my collection named Hell's Half Acre Hoard of Morgan Dollars just like the post title if you would like to see them. The camera is really not a professional one but I think it did a pretty good job for a point and click. I would recommend getting a copy stand for anyone who is wanting to take pictures of their collection to share with the group or just for insurance purposes. I was just using the camera on the IPhone with no stand but as you can guess the results wheren't very good. The Stand lets me get a repeatable set up and results.

That's an excellent shoot! What grade is it? MS 60 or AU 55?

Thanks, The coin on the post is an MS64 and if you look at collections on my page you will see the rest of my Morgan Dollar collection or at least what I have completed so far.

How did you light these??

My copy stand has two 1/2" X 12" fluorescent tube bulbs mounted at 45 degree angles above the camera lense about 24" apart evenly. I also cut out any other lights like tv, monitor, and room lights. I basically made it a dark room situation.

I will definitely be keeping the camera for sure. Thanks, the set will be around 120 coins when completed and will contain some of the more popular varieties and all date and mint combos except for proofs. Those horns can do a lot of damage for sure.

I looked at you collection too! you created a fabulous collection. The "collection" part of this website is under utilized. For photos of my coins, I use a table-top tripod to take pictures. Eight inch legs is all. That proved to me that the camera needs to be steadier that I can hold it.

Thanks, I agree I haven't been on here much since I joined the ANA but I have noticed that their aren't many collections posted. I was looking in to a tripod but then I ran across this vintage copy stand on eBay for $50 bucks with shipping so I couldn't pass it up.

Beautiful set and good job with the pictures. I struggle with my photos. Lighting is the hardest thing for me to get right.

Thanks, My set up is two lights at 45 degrees on each side of the item at the height of the camera or above. I also found that turning the room in to a dark room meaning no other lights helped a bunch.

I'm working on a Dansco Silver Dollar set. It's a year set of Morgan, Peace, Ikes and S.B.A dollars. Also a example of the Mint marks of the above. Thanks for asking..

Thanks, What are you collecting? I still have a long way to go to complete the 120 issue set but I hope to fill a few more spaces at the Worlds Fair of Money this summer.

Those are great shots. Keep that camera!Love those steers. Great shot!. Thanks for the information but I looked at your set first. Beautiful. Well done. The way you want it. That's what this hobby is about. Why it's so enjoyable. Only you decide what you collect. And how you do it. You did wonderful. Love those coins. Keep up the good work. Mike. Oh I bet those steers could hurt!

I will definitely be keeping the camera for sure. Thanks, the set will be around 120 coins when completed and will contain some of the more popular varieties and all date and mint combos except for proofs. Those horns can do a lot of damage for sure.
