1899 Indian Chief $5 Silver Certificate

Paper Money-U.S. | Kepi

This is a new area of collecting for me.    "Old American Currency"   I don't know much about this subject...but I'm learning.  (Us Numi's are always learning right)    : )    I love the old designs, the amazing artwork, larger size and overall impressive look of our yesteryear currency.  Our money used to be so COOL...What happened?   I just added this Indian Chief to my collection and hope to get it graded soon. I know it's well worn but a nice example of a very popular note. In the future I'd like to add the $10 Buffalo Note, some of the Educational Series and the Black Eagle.   If anyone could recommend a good book on our paper money please let me know.  Thanks!

Nice large size note. Hard to find in any condition like most older notes.

I surely also recommend "A Guide Book of United States Paper Money, 5th Edition". It is lavishly illustrated, with an excellent introduction, and offers a breakdown of the notes by denomination. I too am new to paper money collecting and this book has become my introductory primer. I have begun my new collection in working toward obtaining one large US note from each of the issue types.

I'd love to see more of the beautiful old currency again instead of what we have now. Thanks so much for sharing. I never thought paper could be nearly as beautiful as coins!

Wonderful find!! I also recently started collecting currency after being a life long collector of coins.

That's interesting! I wonder what the history is that brought an Indian Chief's image to the five dollar bill?

Good luck in your new collecting field. Don't much about it either.

Years ago I had one of those and the buffalo. Some of my favorite paper.

Very impressive. I love this one, and the image of the Indian Chief is really pretty wonderful. Kind of sends chills up my spine. That chief, with the feathered headdress, is a truly American image to me. I am really glad you shared this one.

Congrats! That is a very popular and well known bill (I literally typed coin at first, so used to typing that)! The $10 Buffalo will be cool, too!

Very nice! I've seen that before it came in a set. But there was an original one worth some money if I remember. I don't have a clue on currency. But I like this one I hope it's one of the originals. I believe that's not in bad shape I've seen them but they were always out of my price range lots of luck!

I know of a good book for you. It's called "A Guide Book of United States Paper Money, 5th Edition". It is the Red Book of paper money. Nice bill. Thanks!
