MPC EXPANSION VICTORY NOTE

Paper Money-World | Longstrider

I would like to share this note I just picked up from a great seller on the Bay. It is the One Peso Silver Certificate VICTORY note. The 1944 VICTORY SERIES NO. 66. This is an overprint to celebrate the liberation of the Philippians from the Japanese troops. It was printed in the US and issued in the Philippians. The word VICTORY was overprinted on the back. The notes were very important to the Islands as they had been forced to use Japanese Occupation Currency. I have a small collection of the Allied Nations counterfeit notes of the Japanese Occupation notes. I thought this would make a nice addition to this collection. The back of the note has an image of Apolinario Mabine. Besides a huge list of accomplishments for the Philippians and Her people, he was the first Prime Minister. The note certifies that one peso in silver pesos or legal tender currency of the United States has been deposited in the Treasury of the Philippines. This note measures about 6 ¼” X 2 ¾”. Most of the notes were destroyed after WWII but some can still be found. Thanks for reading this short blog. Feel free to comment.

COUNTERFEIT MONEY NOT ALWAYS A BAD THING!

Paper Money-World | Longstrider

Today I have something a little different to share. I've been saving this one and I feel it will tie in nicely with the blog on the US Mint in Manila. As we all should know, the Philippines was overrun by Imperial Japanese Forces during WWll. When this occurred, in 1942, the Japanese issued their own currency there called Japanese Occupation Currency. This was to replace the older pre-occupation money.

1951 BULGARIAN 3 LEVA BANKNOTE

Paper Money-World | Longstrider

Today I thought I would share another pick-up I found in my coin dealers bargain world currency bin. Below are 2 photos of a Bulgarian 3 Leva note. The word leva translates to "Lion". This note was printed in Moscow and was in use from May 1952 till march 1962. This was during the period Bulgaria was under communist, USSR, rule. That period ended in 1962. Briefly, Bulgaria is a Baltic nation that lies above Romania. Most of the Balkan countries seem to spend a great deal of their history in war or preparing for war. The capitol is Sofia. This note measures 120 x 60 mm. The front shows the Coat of Arms of Bulgaria. The back shows hands holding a hammer and sickle. It also has a watermark that are the capital letters, in Cyrillic, of the Bulgarian National Bank, "BNB" and State treasury Ticket. This particular note is in BU condition.. A unique piece of history I lived through. I look forward to your comments. Thanks for looking!

1910 RUSSIAN 100 RUBLES NOTE

Paper Money-World | Longstrider

I saw this at my coin store while going through one of his "bargain" boxes. He keeps a few of these bargain bins for people to go through. Everyone seems to love them. Anyway, I saw this huge note and had to check it out more thoroughly. Only one way to do a good job of that. Buy it!! It is large, 10' X 4 3/4". That's about 260 mm X 122 mm.. I have found, while researching this note that there are quite a few around but most have been folded.. The front features the Imperial Russian Coat of Arms in addition to a transparent water mark of Catherine the Great This is one of the best watermarks I have ever seen or maybe I should say not seen. It really needs to be held up to a bright light to see it. Once that is done, it is amazing how much detail is in it. The back has a portrait of the Tzarista along with an allegorical male figure. Most of this series was issued prior to or encompassing World War 1, during Russia's huge inflationary period. I am working on a friend to come back from her honeymoon to read the Cyrillic for me. I'll let you know. This note had a cash value, in gold, of 50 1910 US dollars. Quite a chunk of change back then! I learned quite a bit about the history of this note and Russia from something that caught my eye in a bargain bin! I hope you enjoy the pictures and history lesson. Thanks for looking. I look forward to your comments.

GYPSY WOMAN-BANCO DE MEXICO-CINCO PESOS

Paper Money-World | Longstrider

Below is my specimen of, I feel, one of Mexico's most beautiful Bank notes. This would be a 1961 specimen of a 5 Peso note. This note is commonly called the gypsy note. This particular note is dated 8 November, 1961.. Romania or, Romani, "Gypsies " , or "gitanos", began showing up in Mexico, in significant numbers, in the mid 19th century. The Obverse or front side of this note shows a beautiful Gypsy woman. The reverse shows the statue of another beautiful woman that is depicted on the modern Libertad. Thanks for looking. I look forward to your comments. Please note: American Bank Notes Company printed this series!
