One Six Pence that didn't make it

Coins-World | mrbrklyn

Of the New Zealand Coins I sent out to ANACS, I had hopes for this one because it not only had great details in the strike, but it also had a lovely die crack.  Somehow I missed the surface troubles with the coin and it came back details AU58 - Wire Brushing.  I looked at it under the loop and failed to catch the problem.
It does seem that  Anacs is getting annoyed with me sending in cheap NZ coins.  A few came back upside down in the plastic.  Other than send tham back, there is not much I could do about it.  How hard can it be to put the coin rightside up in the holder?

Shame the grading service treats customers so badly.

I agree... Sending coins into get graded is not cheap. Why in the world would the graders put a coin in crooked! ; )

I just put my hands up and shake my head. You know, I am a pharmacist and I have to go above and beyound to help customers and patients beyound what is reasonable, every DAY, and we get reimbursed NOTHING. All they had to do in this case was to put the coin in correctly. I am not giving up on ANACS because of this, but still... THe treatment from the other graders is even worst.

What a bunch of chumps. What was their reasoning/excuse for the alignment. Your web photos are great. I don't see anything wrong with this coin but who am I? That die crack would have sealed the deal for me. I wouldn't have been able to resist it. I too use ANACS for some VAMs. Anyhow thanks..

I'm surprised George V1 should be showing with the obverse. Every Brutish coin going all the way back the King or Queen is the obverse. . They put it in wring. Great coin. I believe they got it right. Thanks !

It didn't bother me that they put the bird on the obverse side of the holder, but why would it not be aligned correctly? I can never fix this, really.

That's a beautiful coin. Before reading the grade it received, I thought an AU based on the ever so slight wear along the feather tips and a few touches elsewhere on the high points. But a details grade? Granted this is going by an image, but I see no signs either. Also, I agree as to their reasoning for misalignment in the holder when there is none. Thanks for sharing this and drawing attention to New Zealand coinage.

Up side down and wire brushed ! Keep on trying. I like ANACS for cheap coins. I need to get some coins together for ANACS. Thanks for sharing your coins. Very interesting.

A lot of the NZ coins are, in fact, polished ... it is just a pitty that I can't seem to catch them and ones like this have great detail.
