Mint Uncirculated Coin Set

| Mrdavie

I purchased the 2018 United States Mint Uncirculated Coin Set and a roll each of 2018 Kennedy Half Dollars P & D. Here is my question:
Are the coins in the coin set handled differently than in the coin rolls? The half dollar in the mint set looks quite good - better than those in the half dollar rolls.

I would think that the Uncirculated set would be handled with more care.

I just called the US mint. The uncirculated mint set is handled with more care than the rolls. She couldn't tell me to what degree. Even though the Kennedy rolls are meant for collectors, they are filled same as circulated coins. So says the mint.... Great question!

Unable to edit reply post. 2017 not 2027.

I just received a 2027 mint set. The Kennedy half dollar had a clear scratch too to bottom on thr obverse. Oh well. The ha,f do,kar in the other set was better. They are uncirculated coins! Seems to me if the mint is not putting half dollars into circulation the no -proofs should be handled better.

I really am not sure. Great question. I'm interested in the answers. Anybody going to call the mint and ask or should I. Thanks. You made me think today..

Yrs ago, I heard of coins pulled from circulation that were nicer than those in mint sets. Maybe it's different now.

I thought about purchasing a roll, but I was told at the mint you can't have just one roll. Mint sets are supposed to be mint.

Well, the min purchase of Kennedy half dollar rolls is one each from Philadelphia and Denver mints.

The ones in the uncirculated set are put in I believe by machine. The rolls will rub together unless you put them in a round square plastic holder. Or just leave them alone None are ment for circulation. Otherwise why buy them. There to put away and remember twenty years from now you have them. I break up the uncirculated set for my books. To keep them up to date. That's what I do. Thanks Mike.
