My first blog. An introduction...

| thisistheshow

Hello fellow ANA members! My name is Eric. I am writing here to introduce myself and tell you a bit about me. I joined the ANA earlier this year and I was happy to find this site and these blogs a few weeks later. I think it is a great resource for all of us. I have tremendously enjoyed reading the recent blogs and have spent some time perusing the older ones as well.

As for me, I became interested in coins at a young age sitting at the dining table of one of my Grandmothers. She was a casual collector, a child of the depression, and liked to save her cents (but not before checking them for wheaties, etc). I didn't do much collecting then but I got that spark. And I guess it stuck with me. Over 30 years later I somehow redeveloped an interest in coins and I have been collecting for several years now.

I am on a fixed income so I cannot just buy, buy, buy. I made the usual beginner mistakes, but through continuing my education in collecting (such as by joining here) I have been able to get myself on the right track. I recently completed a raw, circulated set of Washington Quarters 1932-1964 and will be doing the clad series to 1998 next.

Nice meeting you all!

Edited to add: I am also curious if there is much use of the forums. There does not seem to be much activity.

I'm late in welcoming you, gld to find you. Hope you write more often. A great deal of my U.S. coin collection has been put together by finding coins in change. So I'm in tune with you. Hope you will post more frequently

Welcome thisistheshow, you are correct in surmising that many blog entries would be more suited for the Forums, but since the Forums are rarely used and the Blogs are more prominent, the Blogs are used. I can also understand collecting on a budget, some of the collectors I encounter seem to be well heeled, I consider myself a bottom feeder with a desire to seek out under exploited areas. Look forward to hearing more from you either on the Blogs or in the Forums. Mokie

Welcome first of all I have seen you at NGC right? It's good to have you. Yes the forums or threads are used. When someone has a question or an issue there used allot especially latley. There very useful. Just like blogs or journals were we share about coins and tokens and medals. We learn allot there. And we have a good time also. So stick around I think you will like it. Pat

Yes, we met over on NGC. I joined there after I joined here, but it wasn't until coinsbygary mentioned the ANA had blogs that I knew about this place.

Welcome, the forums go in cycles for a few days they are very active and then they die down. It is great to have you here. Mistakes happen, an dit is good that you have learned from them. I am interested in that set of Washington's it sounds like it will be amazing whence finished.

Regarding the forum, from what I see, some of what is posted on the blogs (such as this intro blog) might be better suited for the forum, perhaps a new member thread. But the way the site is set up people might miss it.
