I made a blog about the Beginning Years of US Coinage a few weeks ago, about the years 1793-1796; today I am putting up the opposite, the Ending Years of US Coinage, the years 1857, 1873, 1933, and 1964.
The Beginning of United States Coinage
I often wonder about the proof Original and Restrike half cents of 1840-1849. These coins are doubtless very rare, so I often wonder what happened. Did they just stop making them for that period, and only made proof's? Does anybody have an idea? I've never even seen these in the market!
I have made my decision for 2015: I will focus on making an 'Ungraded Amateur Type Set,' in which coins may be ungraded, and coins may not be worth over $100, unless I manage to get an amazing deal. This means that I will not get Liberty Cap Half Cents and Large Cents, 1864 Small Motto Two Cent, Flowing Hair and Draped Bust Half Dimes, Dimes, Quarters, and Half Dollars, I will not get Twenty-Cent pieces or pre-morgan silver dollars. Nor will any gold be included.
