1942 India 1/4 Anna Coin
Issued orivinally in 1940, this 1/4 Anna coin is 1/64 of a Rupee, the currency of British controlled India. My coin was minted in 1942. This years of world war were rather harsh of currency producing materials at hand. Several alternatives were developed as copper was substituted for military efforts. So, finding pure struck coinage in this metal for this year should be considered an attractive option.
My coin was struck in Calcutta and the image of King George VI was retouched twice, specifically the "fleu de lis" detail in his crown, before its production.
The India British Rupee ran as currency from 1862 until 1947, year in which the UK dominion was retired from the country.
In my own words.
