1948 Angola 20 Centavos Coin

Coins-World | AC Coin$🌎

Commemorative issue
300th Anniversary - Revolution of 1648

The currency of Angola was the "Angolar" from 1928 to 1958. It was pegged to the Portuguese Escudo and the rate was 1 Escudo = 1.25 Angolar.

The actual Republic of Angola was a colony of Portugal from 1910 to 1951. The coin shown here was only in use for one year from 1948 to 1949. Of simple design it includes the Coat of Arms of Portugal as the issuing country. On its reverse the denomination with limited details or decorations to make it a plain coin. Yet, historically valuable, the Angolan Government issued after 1951 a more modern coinage. Today's currency name for this African republic is called the Kwanza.

With dark bronze features and color, this coin remains as evidence of this African country's struggles to position itself in a growing market since the early years of the twentieth century.

In my own words.

Thanks. From Angola's Colonial period, almost at the end of Portugal's dominion over this great African country.

When I first saw this it reminded me of a old European type token. Very cool! ; )

Thanks for telling us about these coins. I've only recently begun to collect African coins because they just never came my way until I bought the 26 lb bag of foreign coins. What a haul! I probably have 50 African coins now

Thanks for your kind words. Too bad we haven't met so I could grab a few. Best of luck with them and all.
