1996 Philippines 1 "Piso" Coin
This shiny coin was minted in 1996, however it bears another year: "1993" on its reverse underneath the Seal of the Central Bank of Philippines, this was the year that "Bangko ng Pilipinas" or Bank of Philippines was certified and structured as a financial institution.
The currency of the Republic of Philippines is the "piso" or peso. It is equivalent to 1 Piso = 100 sentimos or centavos. Within the late 1800's the national currency was held creditable to all natural resources of the islands. In 1902, when the US took control of the Philippines after the Spanish-American War, the Federal Government attached the pilipino peso to gold. Stability was not reached until late 1946, when the Philippines Commonwealth with the US was sealed as an operating system. My coin brings the image of Philippines National hero Dr. José Rizal who became a pivotal change in political views for all Islands' citizens. It also bears the Bank's "Coat of Arms" or certified Seal.
In my own words.
