Hello Friends!

National Money Show | Mike Ellis

I know it has been awhile but I am fine. I have been getting caught up on many projects that tend to be neglected when serving in the high energy position on the Board.I want you all to know that my intimate involvement in the ANA is still alive and well. I so look forward to teaching the grading class in Portland with my good friend and staffer Rod Gillis and so look forward to seeing so many of you there as well.I also so look forward to this year's Summer Seminar at HQ on Colorado College Campus this summer. That is always my two favorite weeks of the year! For those of you who know about Jack Jackson, you might be interested in knowing that we currently plan on presenting "Jack Jackson - The Play" at one of the Bull Sessions. My good friend Rick Snow has already volunteered to play a role and I need more volunteers. Many of you can play the role without any practice! On a more serious note, the ANA Board of Governors Candidates Forum will be held at the National Money Show in Portland the end of the first week of March. I encourage you all to attend. There should be some interesting statements made. No, I am not running but the elections are as important as ever. Early on it appears to be, do you want collectors or dealers to lead the organization? I know what I want to see this time and right now I am very concerned for the ANA. Strong members who believe you can get elected, please give it a "run."See you all in Portland and at HQ in June!Mike

ANA Advocacy Programs

Coins | Mike Ellis

As part of our Congressional Charter, we are required to inform members and the public in general on all things numismatic with advocacy issues being at the top of the list. On this site we have an excellent portal to the Federal Trade Commission's site on numismatic collectible and more. To get there, follow the link below:http://ftc.gov/bcp/edu/pubs/consumer/alerts/alt188.shtm

Always Take Physical Delivery of Purchased Precious Metals!

Stocks & Bonds | Mike Ellis

For those of you who know me, especially if you know me well, my most oft quoted numismatic statement is, "Never, ever buy coins off of television!" My second most oft quoted numismatic statement is "When purchasing bullion, always take physical delivery!" Sorry folks but holding precious metals, that includes coins, on paper is just plain foolish. If you want any precious metals to be part of your IRA, make that the IRA of a safe deposit box at the bank or your own immobile vault! Never hold it on paper! Why? Check out this story: www.coinweek.com/bullion-report/merit-gold-silver-longer-accepting-bullion-orders/ . I am certain this is just one of many such stories coming. And it is not the first time this has happened. To my knowledge, precious metal pushers have been scamming people out of their hard earned money forever, especially since the early 1980s, again in the early 1990s and apparently now it is going to start up again. Every time there is a run up of values in precious metals it has been followed by a crash where prices settle back where they were or even lower than they were before parts of the run up. It has not been so obvious this time around and it may never again fall much below where it is now but, it is much lower than the record prices were just a short time ago. Plenty of people have lost lots of money and now some are beginning to lose it all that was on paper. Some have made money as well but they usually know what they are doing and are often those who sell it on paper and then disappear!I am just trying to share fair warning. Do not let history repeat itself with you being the victim this time!

One Gold Kennedy Half Dollar Per Customer Per Day?

World's Fair of Money | Mike Ellis

I doubt it! I predict, though they likely will not show it, that the grading services are going to encapsulate more of the first day of release from the ANA Show than the mint is selling. At this point, it will be easier and much more affordable to go or have someone go to the other mints for you to buy 5 and then take them or send them to the show! And you can do this several times in this overnight delivery world we live in! (This is the opinion of the author and not necessarily that of the ANA, its officers, its governors or its employees)
