Double Denomination Error Coin????

Coins | user_78758

Bought this coin for $23.
1944 Lincoln wheat cent / 1942 Mercury dime.
Going to send it in for authentication and grading in the near future.
Curious about everyone's opinions about this coin.

machined coin

you know what, it kind of looks like someone sort of shelled out a Lincoln, removed the reverse, and inserted a mercury dime, and, as other members suggested, soldered it, or some other form of securing, and then passed it off as double denom

Someone had a lot of patience to make this 👍

Doesn't look like a double denomination. Bring it in to a dealer before paying money to send it in.

A classic Magician's coin, there is no way you could have that error occur in the minting process, especially with different dates. https://www.coincommunity.com/forum/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=320072

I appreciate all the comments and constructive criticism. Wished I had joined ANA years ago. Please forgive my writing style. I suffer from severe PTSD and have had multiple concussions. Sometimes my thoughts and what I type get mixed up. Took a few more pictures to show better details.

that's fine, we are here to learn... As Pat would say, if one thinks they know everything about coins, they should try stamps. Glad you are here now, in our wonderful ANA community, to teach and learn with fellow users/members

This does not look like an actual double denomination, it looks like it was forged. I think you got had on this. Too bad.

Sending it to a third part grading service, such as NGC, which ANA members enjoy the benefit of direct submission(as opposed to paying $39 annually to get submission privileges), is a good idea, so you can have whatever it turns out to be certified as what it is.

Wait a minute. I just noticed the title of your blog. This is a real double denomination single coin??? Can we see a edge on photo please? I think I see a bit of solder around the "I" in Liberty of the Mercury. Man made??

I noticed the same thing and was going to make a similar comment.

Nice conversation piece.

This isn't a true double denom. is it? it looks like a dime on top of a cent.

You got me all worked up there for a second with the dime on top of the cent.. As a cent roll hunter , my opinion is fantastic pair. I have used ANACS for most of my error or other type varieties as they do more types than the other top 3. As you get going here, try to write a little more in your blogs. Excellent photos!! Again, welcome. I hope you teach us and learn from us...Thanks.
