off set die half

Young Numismatists Exchange | user_94464

Hello, yesterday I found a bicentennial half dollar with an offset strike. It is only offset 5-10%, and it is a Philadelphia mint in AU 58-MS60 condition. But was still a cool find. Does anyone know if this coin is worth more than face value, or is a collectible coin?

Thanks,
           Bryce

It might be worth a little extra, but it's not spectacular.

Error coins always seem to have a higher value. Have a coin dealer check it out! Good Luck!

Error coins are always worth something extra. The trouble is finding those error collectors.

I looked at it under a microscope, and the bottom rim was twice the size as normal, and there was only a little top rim, so this could just be a small offset strike, or wear and tear, like you said.

Bryce, Very nice pictures. Typically error collectors like to see dramatic offsets. That doesn't mean your coin doesn't have value. I agree with Mike, you should have a local coin dealer look at it and get his opinion.

I looked at my set looks the same as yours where it says in God we trust. It might be of a little but not much. I don't think it's worth alot. But have it checked out. Great picture. There are error coins and varieties out there but it depends on the coin and year. Good eye! Maybe someday you'll find a 1955 double die penny! Now your talking. I think a ms 66 goes for 30,000! Not to shabby. Mike

If it is a genuine mint error it will definitely have at least some value. Like Mike said, you can't tell much without a picture.

Hi Bruce! A picture would help a lot. I don't know if you have the ability to do that with your device. Even then it would be hard to see.. I'd there a coin store nearby that you trust bring it there. Others might be able to help you. I have to see it Mike.
