Sears centennial token
1986, Sears celebrates its 100 years in business with a token made from copper from the Statue of Liberty. Material was from the renovation of the statue. Sear appears to be struggling to stay afloat at this time, so it may the last hurrah for them.

Cool Token! I really enjoyed Sears! One of the original stores with everything under one roof! Seems kinda sad that their stock is so low. Like Mike says " sign of the times ".

Stroh's Beer also issued a token made from copper used in the Statue of Liberty. Their's was about the size of a silver dollar, I had one for a pocket pice years ago. Another name for such pieces are "relic medals". The Sear's in our town was downsized, but closed after about a year. Retail is a hard business nowadays. I suppose Sear's even had a coin and stamp department at one time. Anyone recall one?

There catalog was great. But I remember my wife having a credit card and it was twenty three percent interest we got rid of it. There automotive department was also good for oil changes while you shopped the store or mall. This must be there last gasp of air. It is a nice token. But it is a sign of the times. To bad. Mike.
