Just In Case You're Upset About the 2020 ANA Convention

World's Fair of Money | VKurtB

Hi, fellow ANA'ers. I work for the Pennsylvania House of Representatives, and I am mourning the loss of the 2020 World's Fair of Money as much or more than anyone. I committed to be there for the entire show whenever and wherever it was going to be held.

Philadelphia Was Off Da Hook, Ya'ow?

World's Fair of Money | VKurtB

I'm sorry, I have to say this - gripe all you want about the ignorant labor union rules at the Pennsylvania Convention Center, and you wouldn't be wrong. But I am quite sorry but Denver, Colorado; Anaheim, California; and even Rosemont, Illinois cannot hold a candle to Philly when it comes to dragging out a crowd for an ANA World's Fair of Money. Even school-aged kids were in abundance. Philly area school districts don't open until September 4th (they'll still be in class on June 10), some even later as they discover the mold that grew in their buildings this summer from record rainfalls. Last year, a random rifle shot up an aisle at Denver would have endangered no one!

Anybody Remember Themed Philatelic Covers?

World's Fair of Money | VKurtB

Are you old enough to remember the craze of First Day Cover collecting in philately? There used to be a lot of people who were both coin collectors and stamp collectors. But in these more modern days, many people have decided to specialize in one or the other. I guess I'm just old enough to have a foot in both worlds. I like to create my own covers, with a particular theme. I especially like to collect covers with the theme of major coin shows.

Still Looking for Good Airfares for ANA Denver?

World's Fair of Money | VKurtB

It seems that affordable airfares from the East Coast to Denver in the week of the ANA show are few and far between. Usually, I like to take Southwest Airlines to most destinations, but that is not a low-priced option from the northeast this time.

There are a few too many people in this hobby we all love that treat business ethics with a hearty, "Oh well, whatever".

Are the Majority of PCGS ANA Kennedy Slabs "Illegitimate"? YES!

World's Fair of Money | VKurtB

PLEASE NOTE: The photo accompanying this post is upside down and urine-colored intentionally. The upside down picture is in observation of the international distress signal. The urine color is to indicate that I am p1$$3d off about this breach of ethics. PCGS no longer meets my ethical standards, and I am finished with them. All my PCGS coins will be crossed over to NGC over the next few months and years.

Come to the ANA Show, Stay for the Banquet

World's Fair of Money | VKurtB

Okay, I'll admit it - while this will be my 9th World's Fair of Money, my first in NYC in 1997, it will only be my third time attending the banquet. I had no idea what I was missing out on! It is pretty close to the coolest part of an ANA annual convention. First, people are in a festive welcoming mood. Most dealers will have "made their show" long ago. The things that had staff all nervous (Mint's gold Kennedy release, I'm speaking of you here) have either gone well or damage control has already begun. The Board is in family time mode. The exhibit judging is done. It's all over except for a waaaay compelling Money Talk the next morning at 9. (I probably mentioned that before somewhere.) The grand Saturday free public admission awaits.
