I am new to Ancient Coins

So, does anyone know a good place online to purchase/look up ancient coins?? (Roman coins are my favorite.)

Sixbid.com aggregates coins from all the major auction houses that are coming up for sale. A close competitor is Numisbids.com. I was considering making a list of all the different auction firms for you, but these two sites include most of the companies.

For looking up ancient coins, especially roman coins, the site that I would recommend is WildWinds, they have ancient coins listed by emperor and a partial inscription lookup. Also most of the coin information comes from past auction records

I've found that WildWinds works fairly well for Roman coins. Most of their auction records come from eBay, so that skews their listings towards low- to mid-range coins (which is probably what you're looking for). Beware of outdated prices, though. Much of the information on there is rather old.

A specific seller on eBay has roman coins. Forgot the name of it though

Try a site called acsearch.info. This site compiles auction results for most major numismatic auction houses and is searchable. For example, if you are looking for a specific coin of Septimius Severus, enter "septimius" in the search box along with a more specific descriptor to narrow down the results such as an RIC number. To view prices realized you will need to create an account and log in.

I've had some challenges with the acsearch.info search tool, though maybe it's improved since I last visited the site. Acsearch is seen as a competitor to CoinArchives.com, which allows free access to the past six months of auction records, but requires a subscription to look back farther than that. In my experience, CoinArchives is superior to acsearch, but likely isn't worth the price tag for the average collector.
