I am not familiar with what happens at a coin club meeting, the benefits of belonging to a coin club, what it takes to start, run, be a part of one. What components are needed and what kind of time it takes to start one, time it takes to dedicate to making a successful one. I know that's a lot to ask but I think this area needs one and I would like to know how I can be a propellant to make that happen. I am not a dealer (yet) just a long time fan of numismatics and I love the coins I keep as a private collection though not worth a whole lot.
Any advice out there?
Thank you all in advance for your insight.
Jeff

I actually have a blog post on that! I couldn't find one in my local area, so I created my own, and we are going on four months strong!

Coin clubs generally have a short business portion of the meeting (covering upcoming activities, etc.) and then a more social portion, which generally includes refreshments, show and tell, a speaker, a drawing, or auction. I've always had a great experience at coin clubs, where you can easily meet like-minded people.

Good counsel here, X. Having lived in over a dozen places over the past 20+ years (military), and being a member of a few coin clubs, I call tell you that the quality of coin club meetings vary a LOT from place to place. My advice is provide some variety, have a drawing (sell tickets as a fundraiser) with 10-20 items every month, some sort of show and tell or a talk/presentation, and have a club-level bourse for members at least twice a year if not quarterly.

I drive 100 miles one way to get to my coin club meeting twice a month - how far will you drive? There is a club right here in town that I attend but it is small and has a limited scope of knowledge programs lack depth and sometimes are almost nonexistant.
