Glenn Smedley Memorial Awards presented at Baltimore Show

Acknowledging those who demonstrate the spirit of the late Glenn Smedley, a member of the American Numismatic Association (ANA) and hobby enthusiast who was known as a “collector’s collector,” the ANA annually presents its Glenn Smedley Memorial Award medal.

This year’s recipients, honored at the World’s Fair of MoneySM in Baltimore, are:
  • • Donald E. Bailey of Homer, Michigan. An expert in the field of Mexican numismatics, Bailey serves as coordinator of Region 30 (Mexico, and Central and South America) in the ANA’s Representative Program.
  • • Larry Nakata of Anchorage, Alaska. A devoted collector and active in local club programs, Nakata is a respected leader of organized numismatics in Alaska.
  • • David Schenkman of Bryantown, Maryland. An ANA member for more than 40 years and a specialist in the field of tokens and medals, Schenkman is an instructor at ANA Summer Seminars and a regular columnist for the ANA’s magazine, Numismatist.
  • • David Sklow of Ocala, Florida. Currently serving as ANA Historian, Sklow is active in local and national numismatics. He is secretary of the Token and Medal Society, and secretary/treasurer of the Numismatic Bibliomania Society.
  • • Allan Van Vliet of Santa Barbara, California. Dedicated to furthering the numismatic hobby, Van Vliet has donated large quantities of state quarter boards for free distribution by the ANA and has volunteered his time to help with marketing programs.
  • • Fred Weinberg of Encino, California. A strong ANA supporter and expert in error coins, Weinberg actively advances knowledge of the field by speaking, writing articles, and providing coins for promotion and education.
