The American Numismatic Association will offer a pair of informative, useful two-day courses for collectors at the Spring National Money Show, May 10-12 at the Colorado Convention Center in Denver. One class helps collectors recognize Chinese counterfeits of popular U.S. Coins, and the other teaches paper money collectors how to grade their collections.
Facing the Chinese Counterfeiting Threat

When: 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., Tuesday and Wednesday, May 8-9

Where: Hyatt Regency Denver at Colorado Convention Center

Noted counterfeit expert Dr. Gregory Dubay discusses one of the most pressing issues in modern numismatics. Counterfeit coins and slabs made in China are pouring into the U.S. marketplace in unprecedented numbers. Access to Western technology means that the counterfeiters are able to produce high-quality fakes. It is not against Chinese laws to make and sell counterfeit coins dated prior to 1949.  

In this two-day seminar, Dubay shows students how to protect themselves by becoming smart online consumers. He also teaches students how to spot counterfeits and to use simple, inexpensive tools to authenticate their coins.

 
Grading U.S. Paper Money

When: 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., Tuesday and Wednesday, May 8-9

Where: Hyatt Regency Denver at Colorado Convention Center

Instructor Glen Jorde, a past Professional Currency Dealers Association president, leads this hands-on seminar that focuses on introductory and intermediate grading skills across a number of popular paper money areas. There also will be opportunity for group discussion and one-on-one instruction. Students are encouraged to bring up to 10 of their own notes for grading, as well as a magnifying loupe.

Each course costs $198 for ANA members and $298 for non-members. ANA life members receive a $25 discount on each class.
