American Numismatic Association life member Mary Sauvain was honored with the 2011 Adna G. Wilde Jr. Memorial Award for Excellence during ceremonies today at the ANA World’s Fair of Money in Chicago.

The award honors the memory of Wilde – former ANA president, treasurer and parliamentarian, and recognizes ANA members who dedicate their time and resources to further the educational purposes of the Association and the hobby, and who set an example for others.

Sauvain lives in Colorado Springs and operates Mary Sauvain Numismatic Services. She has taught hundreds of hobbyists as an instructor of introductory and intermediate grading classes at the annual ANA Summer Seminar. She has also written for The Numismatist, Coin World, and other hobby publications.

She was awarded an honorary “Doctorate of Numismatics” by the ANA in 2009, as well as the Glenn Smedley Memorial Award and a Presidential Award. Sauvain is a member of the Numismatic Literary Guild, Early American Coppers, National Silver Dollar Roundtable, Florida United Numismatists and Central States Numismatic Society. She is also a co-founder and past president of Women in Numismatics and a founding member and past regional vice president of Colonial Coin Collectors Club.
