INTRODUCTION

In 1987 Aubrey and Adeline Bebee donated their extensive collection of U.S. paper currency to the ANA. During the previous halfcentury, Aubrey Bebee – collector, dealer and ANA life member 110 – along with his wife, Adeline, assembled a world-class collection of coins, paper money and numismatic books. The couple began acquiring U.S. paper money in 1941, eventually accumulating over 900 individual notes and uncut sheets, including many spectacular rarities. The Bebees also donated two of the most famous American coins: a type-3 1804 dollar (the Idler/Bebee specimen) and a 1913 “V” nickel (the McDermott/Bebee specimen). Among their many accolades, the Bebees received the Farran Zerbe Memorial Award in 1988 and the ANA Lifetime Achievement Award in 1992. In 1996, Aubrey was inducted into the ANA Numismatic Hall of Fame.
