MORE THAN 3,000 VISITORS ATTEND NATIONAL MONEY SHOW IN NEW ORLEANS

The American Numismatic Association welcomed 3,204 visitors to the National Money ShowSM May 9-11 in New Orleans.

Ninety-two people became new members of the ANA at the show, and two dozen children attended the Boy Scout and Girl Scout workshops. Another 60 children took part in the Treasure Trivia activity at the ANA Kids Zone.

“New Orleans was a wonderful city to visit, and the Crescent City Coin Club as the host club saw to it that the show had a fun, New Orleans flavor,” said Executive Director Kim Kiick.

Stack’s Bowers Galleries, the Official Auctioneer of the ANA in 2013, collected $7.3 million in auction revenue. The 1879 Four-Dollar Gold Stella with Coiled Hair brought the single-largest lot at $646,250. An 1830 Templeton Reid $2.50 Gold coin sold for an additional $329,000.

Louisiana State Representative Paul Hollis thanked the ANA for bringing the National Money Show to New Orleans and Louisiana with a special proclamation that was read on the floor of the Louisiana House of Representatives on Friday, May 10. On hand to witness the proclamation read into the official state record were Philip Diehl, the 35th director of the United States Mint; ANA Vice President Walter Ostromecki; Governors Wendell Wolka, Clifford Mishler, Mike Ellis, Greg Lyon and Scott Rottinghaus; National Exhibits Coordinator Mark Lighterman; and Diane Piret, industry affairs director for the Industry Council for Tangible Assets.

This was the final National Money Show scheduled in May. The 2014 National Money Show will be held Feb. 27 to March 2 at the Cobb Galleria Centre in Atlanta. In 2015, the show will be in Portland, Ore., March 5-7; in 2016, the show will be in Dallas March 3-5.
